In 2013, the hospital partnered with Med Tech Ambulance to hold its 2nd Annual Golf Tournament and Dinner at the Pawtucket Country Club. Led by co-chairs Gary and Beth Reis, the event drew over 130 participants from across the state. The event began with a brief lunch and shotgun start, followed by a day of shamble golfing on the green. In the evening, the hospital hosted an awards dinner, during which participants could bid on a number of items in the silent auction or win raffle prizes. The highest-scoring players received tournament awards at the close of the event. Individual attendees could participate in the day-long tournament for $185. In addition, golfers had the opportunity to become event sponsors at various donation brackets starting at $150. The golf tournament raised more than $35,000 for Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island.

Gary Reis established Med Tech Ambulance Services in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, in 1996. In 1998, just two years after founding Med Tech, Gary Reis founded another health care-related company, Ambulance Rescue Billing, Inc., now known as A-Stat Medical Billing Management, Inc.
Many companies outsource back office functions such as payroll and accounts receivable to save time and costs. Outsourcing payroll also provides an extra layer of security for sensitive data and a level of professional expertise in an area where small errors can lead to major liabilities. Not all back office functions lend themselves as easily to outsourcing as payroll. Accounts receivable (AR), for example, seems pretty cut and dried: when a customer purchases something, the AR department prepares and sends an invoice, which the customer pays. If payment is late, AR pursues the matter, sometimes referring the account to a collection agency. In the health care industry, though, things are much more complex because most patients carry health insurance, and when a service is provided to a patient, it’s billed both to the patient and the insurance carrier. In addition, different carriers often negotiate preferential payment terms with health care practices, so that two patients covered by different insurance companies might be billed different amounts for the same service. Because of this complexity, many practices have determined that it’s less costly to hire a medical billing company to provide those services. In addition, engaging the services of a medical billing firm can also be more transparent, more efficient, and more secure than operating a billing department. Med Tech Ambulance Service sponsored Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island’s fourth annual golf tournament and dinner, which took place on July 22, 2015. Themed A Summer Breeze, the event included musical entertainment and silent and live auctions. The tournament also featured an inaugural poolside dinner. Patients joined the festivities as well to share their personal experiences of receiving care from the hospital. An awards ceremony followed to highlight tournament winners. The charitable event raised more than $127,000, which will be used to enhance operating support facilities. Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island intends to renovate areas used by families and patients, making them more therapeutic and comfortable. Additionally, the success of the tournament makes it possible for the hospital to purchase a perioperative C-arm that will improve visual monitoring throughout operating procedures. Gary Reis leverages more than 30 years of experience as an entrepreneur to serve as the founder and president of several Pawtucket, Rhode Island-based businesses, including Med Tech Ambulance Service. To further support the medical community, Gary Reis has raised funds for Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island.
Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island’s Internal Medicine Center recently garnered NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home Recognition Level 2 from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) in acknowledgement of its patient-centered and evidence-based processes that emphasize coordinated care. According to a representative from the Internal Medicine Center, the organization was pleased that its efforts to practice patient-centered care earned NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home Recognition, which involves a three-year accreditation process. A philosophy of primary care intended to cultivate patient-centered excellence, the “medical home” concept focuses on blending information technology and teamwork to improve the patient experience and the quality of care while also reducing costs. Medical homes promote ongoing relationships between clinicians and patients rather than episodic office visits. To earn the NCQA medical home accreditation, centers must demonstrate care that is coordinated, accessible, comprehensive, and centered on the patient. A founding member of the Rhode Island Ambulance Association, Gary Reis has established several companies in the medical field, including Triton Fleet Services and A-Stat Medical Billing Management. Travelers to the Kingdom Swaziland in Africa may wish to plan at least a week for their visit to fully appreciate the slow pace and various natural and cultural experiences of the area. The small country, ruled by an executive king, offers wildlife viewing, walking trails with exceptional scenery, rafting adventures, and other opportunities. The Umhlanga Festival, one of the largest cultural events in Africa, takes place in Swaziland in the winter months. To reach Swaziland by airplane, one must fly from Johannesburg in South Africa via Swaziland Airlink. The flight takes approximately 45 minutes and ends at the King Mswati airport. Other possibilities to enter the country include taking a bus from Johannesburg through Skyworld or TranMagnific or driving across the border where a fee of R50 will cover entry. The border offices will also accept South African rand, but have no exchange bureaus.
